Max Planck–Weizmann Joint Postdoctoral Program
May 14, 2026
The Max Planck Society (MPG) and the Weizmann Institute of Science (WIS) are inviting applications for their prestigious four-year Joint Postdoctoral Program, with the next application deadline on 1 July 2026. Fellows split their research equally between the two institutions — two years at each — gaining access to the resources, expertise, and academic networks of both.
The programme is open to early-career researchers across the natural sciences, with host laboratories spanning Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Earth Science, and the Life Sciences. The first step in the application process is to identify and reach out to potential joint hosts at MPG and WIS to develop a collaborative project proposal that bridges both institutions. Following submission, applications undergo a joint selection process conducted by the two institutions.
The financial package is among the most competitive in international postdoctoral training. At WIS, fellows receive a tax-exempt fellowship of up to €67,946 per year, with full family health insurance, nursing care subsidies, vacation days, relocation support, and subsidised housing. During their time at MPG, fellows are salaried in line with German postdoctoral guidelines, with health, nursing, and pension benefits included. An annual independent research travel allowance of €3,000 supports conference attendance and external collaboration.
Beyond the financial and infrastructural support, the programme is designed to cultivate an internationally embedded research career. Fellows benefit from state-of-the-art laboratory facilities at both sites, structured mentorship, and an established framework for interdisciplinary, cross-border research — making it a strong fit for early-career scientists with a long-term interest in collaborative, internationally networked careers.
