International CHRIE (ICHRIE) is inviting applications for Executive Editor(s)-in-Chief of the Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Education (JHTE). One of ICHRIE's flagship journals, JHTE is a premier global outlet for high-quality research on educational experiences, innovative pedagogies, and industry trends. The role is a voluntary leadership opportunity to shape scholarly impact, build international networks, and help guide the global dialogue in hospitality and tourism education.
Applications are welcome from individuals and from co-editing teams. The position carries a four-year term beginning in January 2027, preceded by a transition phase alongside the current editors, and represents a significant service contribution to the field.
What the role entails
Four core responsibilities
The Executive Editor(s)-in-Chief set the journal's direction and oversee the full editorial cycle.
- 1 Defining the vision Establishing editorial policy and setting a long-term strategy to strengthen the journal's international presence, ranking, and impact.
- 2 Curating content Soliciting and selecting high-quality, relevant manuscripts from a global pool of researchers.
- 3 Leading peer review Coordinating professional, expeditious, and constructive peer review across submissions.
- 4 Promoting JHTE Championing the journal at international conferences and academic events to drive worldwide submissions.
Key qualifications
Applicants should be active members of ICHRIE with a strong review and editorial background and a solid grounding in global hospitality and tourism industry research trends. The role calls for exceptional organisation, strong writing and grammar skills, and a supportive, constructive approach to mentoring authors, alongside a commitment of around ten hours per week. Candidates should also secure the backing of their department or university, since institutional support is part of the application.
