Call for Papers – IJTS Special Issue: The K-Culture Effect on Tourism, Hospitality and Events

The International Journal of Tourism Science (IJTS) has issued a call for submissions to a special issue on The K-Culture Effect: How K-Culture Has Shaped Tourism, Hospitality, and Events, examining the growing influence of Korean popular culture on global tourism behaviour, destination management, and hospitality innovation.

K-culture encompasses an expanding set of cultural products and practices with significant global reach, including K-pop, K-dramas, K-food, and K-beauty. Research on the tourism and hospitality implications of this cultural influence spans destination marketing, visitor motivation and behaviour, consumer experience design, cross-cultural dynamics, and the management of culturally-driven demand. The special issue invites contributions across this range, with an interest in both empirical and conceptual approaches.

The submission process begins with an extended abstract. Authors whose abstracts are accepted will be invited to submit full papers, with publication expected in November 2026.

Topics of interest

Relevant topics include, but are not limited to, K-pop and K-drama-induced tourism, K-food and culinary tourism, K-beauty as a travel motivation, destination marketing in the context of cultural fandom, consumer behaviour and the Korean Wave, hospitality innovation inspired by Korean cultural trends, and cross-cultural dynamics in K-culture tourism contexts.
